FIR registered over alleged objectionable remarks in online show

Maharashtra Cyber Police files FIR against comedian Pranit More over viral online controversy

Comedian and former reality show contestant Pranit More is facing legal trouble after Maharashtra Cyber Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against him in connection with a viral online controversy. The case is linked to videos and clips from a programme hosted by More that were widely shared on social media platforms.

According to Maharashtra Cyber Police, the FIR has been filed over content that allegedly contained objectionable and offensive remarks. Officials said the matter is being investigated to determine whether any laws were violated through the creation, publication and circulation of the content online.

The action comes as Maharashtra Cyber continues to monitor digital platforms and social media for content that may violate legal provisions or negatively affect public order and social values.

FIR and investigation

Maharashtra Cyber Police said an FIR has been registered at the Nodal Cyber Police Station. The case has been filed against Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra, Dr Sejal Pawar and other individuals who may have been involved in creating or sharing the content.

The FIR has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, along with provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000. Authorities stated that the case relates to the publication and distribution of content that has been described as obscene and objectionable.

Officials said the investigation began after several videos and clips from a programme hosted by Pranit More became widely circulated on social media platforms such as YouTube and Instagram. The clips attracted significant public attention and sparked discussions online.

According to Maharashtra Cyber, the content allegedly included remarks related to women, consent and deceased persons. Authorities stated that such comments were considered inappropriate and may violate legal provisions related to public decency and online conduct.

As part of the investigation, police have examined the videos and reviewed the material that was shared across different digital platforms. Officials said they are also looking into how the content was promoted and distributed online.

Maharashtra Cyber has issued summons to Pranit More, Himanshu Jangra and Dr Sejal Pawar. They have been asked to appear before investigators for questioning and to record their statements regarding the matter.

Authorities stated that the investigation is ongoing and that further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.

Content under scrutiny

According to officials, one of the clips under investigation allegedly featured remarks made by Himanshu Jangra. Maharashtra Cyber claimed that the comments suggested a sense of entitlement towards physical intimacy in exchange for money spent during a date.

Investigators believe that such remarks may have portrayed women in a negative manner and trivialised important issues related to consent and personal dignity.

Another video being examined allegedly featured comments made by Dr Sejal Pawar. According to authorities, the remarks were related to deceased male bodies and medical cadavers used for educational purposes.

Officials stated that the comments were viewed as disrespectful towards the dignity of deceased individuals and may be considered offensive under accepted standards of public behaviour.

Maharashtra Cyber further alleged that the videos were recorded and published through online platforms connected with the programme hosted by Pranit More. Investigators are examining whether the content was promoted with the aim of attracting more viewers, increasing engagement and generating revenue through online monetisation.

The police are also reviewing the role of other individuals who may have been involved in creating, sharing or promoting the videos. Officials said legal action may be taken against anyone found responsible for violating the law.

The controversy has generated considerable discussion on social media, with users expressing different opinions about freedom of expression, comedy content and the responsibilities of online creators.

However, Maharashtra Cyber has emphasised that content creators must ensure that their material complies with legal requirements and does not cross the boundaries of public decency.

The agency said it remains committed to maintaining a safe and responsible online environment. Officials added that digital platforms should not be used to spread content that may harm the dignity of individuals or violate existing laws.

Maharashtra Cyber also appealed to social media users to act responsibly while sharing online content. The agency advised citizens not to forward or circulate material that may be considered obscene or unlawful.

Authorities warned that sharing objectionable content can also attract legal consequences under applicable laws. They encouraged people to report unlawful material to the appropriate authorities instead of spreading it further.

The police said they will continue monitoring social media platforms and online ecosystems to identify activities that may violate the law. They added that strict action would be taken against those found engaging in unlawful online behaviour.

As the investigation continues, officials are expected to gather statements, examine digital evidence and determine the extent of involvement of all individuals connected to the case. The final outcome will depend on the findings of the ongoing inquiry and any further legal proceedings that may follow.
